Hay fever also known as allergic rhinitis, seems to be more common now than ever.  It is a condition with signs and symptoms similar to a cold : sneezing, congestion, runny nose and sinus pressures.

Hay fever is caused by an allergic response to airborne substances, such as pollen.

Hay fever sufferers may experience some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Sneezing
  • Watery and itchy eyes
  • Scratchy throat
  • Itchy, blocked or runny nose
  • Headaches
  • Loss of smell and taste
  • Facial pain caused by blocked sinuses
  • Fatigue (tiredness)
  • Irritability
  • Insomnia

People with asthma may find that when hay fever symptoms emerge their wheezing and episodes of breathlessness become more severe. A significant number of people only have asthma symptoms when they have hay fever.

People who have asthma, other allergies, a family history of hayfever, may be more prone to developing hayfever themselves.

Bowen treatment can make a huge difference to the onset, duration and intensity of the body’s response to the allergens and histamines that trigger hay fever .

Bowen Therapy treatments for hay fever will combine hay fever and sinus procedures with the jaw (TMJ) procedure. A Bowen Therapy treatment involves the draining of the lymphatic system hidden behind the sternocleidomastoid muscles on either side of the neck. A treatment often produces an immediate positive response to the sinus blockage. Once started, it does not then seem to re-block.  With chronic cases this can take more or less 3 – 6 weeks and occasionally more.
