What is Bowen Therapy ?
Developed in Australia 50 years ago
Many people haven’t heard about Bowen Therapy even though it was developed right here in Australia by the late Tom Bowen over 50 years ago to help his long suffering wife. It has worked so well that more and more people are using Bowen Therapy worldwide.
Bowen Therapy is gentle and relaxing
Your Bowen Therapist uses very gentle movements to trigger your bodies’ muscles to relax and ‘reset’. The effect is much like a remedial massage only without any discomfort.
Bowen is very relaxing, with many patients falling asleep or dozing off during treatment. Bowen Therapy is a gentle technique which stimulates specific receptors in the body which enable the body to correct its own dysfunctions and restore homoeostasis (balance).
As Bowen Therapy addresses the cause rather than the symptoms, results are consistently profound and permanent. Pain relief is experienced by many people who present with a wide range of painful conditions, even where other treatments have resulted in little or no improvement.
Bowen Therapy treats the whole body and patients generally find resolution for problems they may not even have mentioned to the practitioner, such as emotional stress or fatigue.
Bowen does not require ongoing treatment
Normally I can ease people’s discomfort in the first session and often after about 3 treatments the problem has gone completely. You won’t have to see me for regular appointments months and months on end. This of course depends on each individual’s response to the treatment and the severity of their condition.
There is a lot of misunderstanding about Bowen Therapy, but basically it triggers your muscles to adjust themselves, so you might experience some unusual reactions for a few days as your body re-adjusts itself after the treatment.
Whilst Bowen Therapy, like all other hands on therapies, is best performed on skin, it can be done through light loose clothing.
